It’s drug free but completely liberated and crazy, and I love it when it’s like this.
I just got back from “Real and Wild” – a Christian inspired youth event taking place in Cofton Park, Birmingham. www.realandwild.com
Young people from all over the country (world, even, many nations here); loving Jesus together in free worship.
What love! A full on, reckless, liberated passion.
Like I say, no drink or drugs, but everyone in that marquee moving wildly and free; on podiums, feet stamping, hands waving, shouts, chants, clapping – that strange “orright oright” noise you hear at the end of a revved up song!
This is clean clubland, a Friday night lifted into the supernatural, but none the less intensely sweet for being drenched in the Spirit of the living God. We were made for this, and the after effects are non toxic. We won’t be waking up to groan into our pillows or “call Huey down the porcelain phone” and say “never again”!
People’s faces are alive with laughter, real happiness. No one is left out, no one is unable to join in. No hierarchies here. No one is cooler than anyone else. Instead of a hangover, the after effects are a people determined to unite as a new society. We win – together.
Blacks, whites, Asians, Caucasians; every kind of people bonded as we sing and celebrate. It’s unforced, it’s clean and pure; a melody of unchained, liberated humanity. Yes, it’s a kind of intoxication, but there’s none of the chemical blur, none of the drink-dulled confusion, the temporary glossing over of pain. Here we have made ourselves vulnerable to one another and found that we are accepted as we really are. That realisation breathes a sigh of genuine and great relief through your whole soul…
It’s like seeing for the first time in colour; a foretaste of the Kingdom to come- where everyone is one and all hatred and divisions are demolished. Sometimes, at times like tonight, I look around and can’t believe that I made it. God got me here- to where the party is really at. I open my eyes and look around me in wonder in joy, joy that is only increased by the sense that I’ll never come down off this buzz.
For real, there is eternal life on the dance floor tonight.
